The American Meat Science Association (AMSA) is currently seeking one student that meets our qualifications (see below). The deadline for applications is January 28, 2025. The internship aims to offer a comprehensive experience for a college student with an interest in the meat industry, communications, and educational development. The selected intern will support AMSA staff by assisting with event planning and management, developing educational programs, and providing communications coverage for AMSA activities.
Position: Communications and Education Internship
Location: Remote, The intern must be able to attend the 2025 Reciprocal Meat Conference (RMC) in Columbus, OH, June 19-25, 2025 and the National Student Leaders Connecting Conference (SLC) in Kansas City, MO, July 23-25, 2025
Time Period: May –August 2025.
Scholarship: $1500/month
About AMSA: AMSA is an individual membership organization of meat scientists representing major university research and teaching institutions and meat processing companies in the United States and internationally. Our members conduct basic and applied research and education programs in muscle growth and development, meat quality, food safety, processing technology and consumer and marketing issues relevant to the international meat industry.
Intern General Responsibilities:
Assist AMSA staff with the preparation and management of tasks associated with the 2025 RMC and National SLC. They should be prepared for a wide range of responsibilities including distribution of handouts, copying materials, overseeing committee meetings, setting up the student silent auction, setting up career fair booths, and other general duties as assigned.
Assist AMSA staff with the execution of media, design, and communication related tasks associated with coverage of the 2025 RMC and National SLC.
Student will interact with AMSA membership and strive to meet the needs of RMC and National SLC attendees
Serve as a photographer and videographer for AMSA events by creating shot lists and timelines for each day, editing photo and video content, and uploading digital files in an organized fashion.
Work closely with AMSA staff to manage and maintain AMSA social media platforms, website, mobile app, and email communications.
Design impactful visuals that align with AMSA Brand Guidelines.
Draft internal news stories and proofread communications before publishing.
Student will collaborate with AMSA staff to create and update online programs, trainings, collaborations, and educational content.
Qualifications:
Must be an AMSA member
Highly motivated, well-versed student in media, communications, and design that can handle a variety of assignments simultaneously with little supervision.
Team player that works well with others and has excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Must have own computer for assignments. Personal equipment such as a camera is preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe applications, internet, social media platforms, and email.
Minimum Junior-level college student at an accredited university at time of application (Senior-level and graduate students are encouraged to apply.)
Excellent writing, research, and interpersonal communication skills
Must be available to attend the AMSA 78th RMC in Columbus, OH June 19-26, 2025.
AMSA will cover all travel expenses.
Preferably have a background in (or working knowledge of) the meat and/or food industry
Minimum 2.5 GPA
