Communications Director - North Dakota Stockmen's Association

Full-Time • Bismarck, ND • Closes May 9


The North Dakota Stockmen’s Association is seeking an enthusiastic, organized and creative professional with communication experience to direct the organization’s communication efforts. Major tasks will include the production of the North Dakota Stockman magazine, public relations campaigns, digital content creation and management and event planning. This is a full-time position. A limited amount of travel, including overnight stays, within the state will be required.


Skills/Qualifications: 

Applicants should have strong written and verbal communication skills and editing and proofreading expertise. They must be able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines and have a strong attention to detail, the ability to work in individual and team settings and knowledge of the beef industry. Applicants should have a degree in communications, public relations or a related field and at least three years of experience in a communication-related position. Applicants should be proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite computer applications. They must demonstrate a strong work ethic and a commitment to the objectives of the organization.


Responsibilities:

The Communications Director will have these primary responsibilities:

  • Serve as the editor and advertising manager of the Stockman magazine and other association publications. (Tasks include planning and editing content, researching issues, interviewing sources, writing articles, working with columnists and advertisers, designing pages, preparing bills and archiving information.)

  • Write media releases, broadcast a weekly radio commentary and produce marketing materials.

  • Create and update website and social media content.

  • Coordinate events, including fundraising, volunteer recruitment, financial reporting, logistics and pre- and post-publicity. 

  • Photograph people and livestock.

  • Serve as a staff liaison for various committees. 

  • Others as directed by the Executive Vice President to support fellow staff and volunteer leaders.


Compensation:

The Communications Director will be offered a competitive compensation and benefits package, including vacation, health insurance and a 401(K) savings plan with a company match.
