The National Rural Water Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to training, supporting, and promoting the water and wastewater professionals that serve small and rural communities across the country. NRWA provides training and technical assistance to all 50 states and Puerto Rico through its affiliated State Rural Water Associations that currently have over 31,000 utility system members. Rural Water training and technical assistance covers every aspect of operating, managing and financing water and wastewater utilities.
The Executive Assistant supports the CEO primarily and provides additional support to executive team members, as directed, to ensure that association goals and objectives are accomplished and that operations run efficiently. The Executive Assistant maintains and refines internal processes that support the CEO and additional executive team members, and coordinates internal and external resources to expedite workflows. Additionally they manage communication with employees by liaising with internal and external executives on various projects and tasks, as well as plan and orchestrate work to ensure that senior executives’ priorities are met, organizational goals are achieved, and best practices are upheld. Duties are broad, complex, varied, require discretion and good judgment, and are confidential in nature.
Responsibilities and Duties
Executive Support
Complete a broad variety of administrative tasks for the CEO including: managing a calendar of appointments/ events; maintaining an accurate list of contacts; composing/preparing correspondence that is sometimes confidential; arranging complex and detailed travel plans, itineraries, and agendas; and compiling documents for meetings.
Plan, coordinate and ensure the CEO's schedule is followed and respected.
Communicate directly, and on behalf of the CEO, with agency representatives, state and national association staff, corporate partners, and others, on matters related to CEO's programmatic initiatives.
Research, prioritize, and follow up on incoming issues and concerns addressed to the CEO, including those of a sensitive or confidential nature. Determine appropriate course of action, referral, or response.
Facilitate communication in key areas; demonstrating leadership to maintain credibility, trust, and support with state and national association management staff.
Work closely and effectively with the CEO to keep them well informed of upcoming commitments, deadlines, and responsibilities, following up appropriately. Develop a sense for the issues taking place in the industry.
Communications, Partnerships and Outreach
Ensure the CEO’s bio is kept updated and respond to requests for materials regarding the CEO and the association in general.
Edit and complete first drafts for written communications to external stakeholders.
Manage requests for the CEO’s participation in conferences, meetings, events, and media interviews; and assist in preparation of presentations.
Strategic Initiatives
Follow up on contacts made by the CEO and support the cultivation of ongoing relationships.
Qualifications and Skills

Very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including staff, Board Members, external partners, and donors.
Expert level written and verbal communication skills.

Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently.
Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of customer/client service and response.

Compensation and Benefits
NRWA offers a competitive salary for the Executive Assistant, dependent upon the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
In addition, a competitive benefits package will be provided, including maternity/paternity leave. This is a full-time position, and no outside employment or consulting will be allowed.
